Stewardship
Disciples of First Lutheran Church are encouraged to commit their time, talents, and treasure to God as an act of worship and love. This commitment is done through an annual campaign in the Fall.
You are a Gift
The commitment of time and talent is based on the spiritual gifts that each disciple has received from God. All disciples are encouraged to first take a Spiritual Gifts Assessment. The purpose of taking the assessment is to help match your gifts with opportunities to put them into action, and can be completed on-line by simply following the link given above. Alternatively, copies of the assessment in paper form are available in the church Narthex - then, simply give the completed form to a member of the Stewardship Ministry team. Assessment results are reported directly back to the disciple and will be kept confidential by the Stewardship Ministry Team.
Offer Your Time and Talents
All disciples are also encouraged to complete a Time and Talent sheet. This sheet lists over 70 different ideas and opportunities for you to use your spiritual gifts in service to the church and community. No matter what your gift - administration, evangelism, exhortation, giving, mercy, pastoring/shepherding, prophesy, teaching, serving - there is something here for you!
Share Your Treasure
The commitment of treasure is through weekly, monthly, or annual contributions to the church and/or other charitable causes. Each disciple is encouraged to pray and to seek guidance from the Holy Spirit to determine the amount and choice of their offering.
Keep It Green
Being a faithful steward of God's earth and resources is important to being a complete Christian. Disciples are encouraged to recycle at their homes and at First Lutheran by using the recycling bins located around the church. Paper can also be recycled using the Abitibi bin in the church parking lot. Proceeds from paper recycling are donated to Love Chapel food pantry in Columbus.
Learn More about Stewardship
As part of the 2009 annual campaign, each family or individual disciple of First Lutheran was given a copy of "Giving to God" by Mark Allen Powell. The book discusses stewardship as an act of worship, an expression of faith, and a discipline for spiritual growth. It is our prayer that reading this book touches your heart to freely give back to God what God has first given to you - your time, talents, and treasure.
In addition, the "The 33 Laws of Stewardship" may give you a new perspective on stewardship and your relationship to God.
