
Spiritual Gifts Assessment - Introduction
The apostle Paul wrote in Romans, “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to us.” (Romans 12:6). By the grace of God, each of us has been blessed with abilities and talents. These are our spiritual gifts that we are to use in His service. Some of us are very familiar with our gifts while some gifts may remain hidden from us until the Lord is ready to use them.
As a body of Christ at First Lutheran, understanding our congregation’s spiritual gifts is an important step to do the work of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Stewardship and Christian Education Ministry Teams are partnering to provide the congregation educational resources and administer a Congregational Spiritual Gifts Assessment.
Our guiding scriptures will be Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 and Ephesians 4:11-13.
The assessment will have three phases:
This assessment will be followed by our 2008 Annual Stewardship Campaign. This year, we will “give to God” not only our treasure on our Offering Cards but our time and talent through our spiritual gifts.
Our tentative schedule is as follows:
August 17 – Spiritual Gifts Assessment Overview & Temple Talk by Tom Lindsay
August 24 – Temple Talks
August 31 – Labor Day Weekend
Sept 7 & 14 – Temple Talks
Sept 21 & 28 – Administer Spiritual Gifts Assessment
October 5 – Begin presenting results to members
October 11-12 – All Church Retreat – Spiritual Gifts Theme, continue presenting results
October 19 – Complete presenting results to members
October 26 – Reformation Sunday
November 2 – 2008 Annual Stewardship Campaign Kick-off – “Giving to God”
November 9 – Offering Cards presented to Congregation
November 16 – Consecration Sunday – Giving our Gifts to God
