Spiritual Gifts Assessment - Introduction

The apostle Paul wrote in Romans, “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to us.” (Romans 12:6). By the grace of God, each of us has been blessed with abilities and talents. These are our spiritual gifts that we are to use in His service. Some of us are very familiar with our gifts while some gifts may remain hidden from us until the Lord is ready to use them.

As a body of Christ at First Lutheran, understanding our congregation’s spiritual gifts is an important step to do the work of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Stewardship and Christian Education Ministry Teams are partnering to provide the congregation educational resources and administer a Congregational Spiritual Gifts Assessment.

Our guiding scriptures will be Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 and Ephesians 4:11-13

The assessment will have three phases:

  1. Congregational training and an explanation of spiritual gifts through bulletin inserts, personal testimonials and temple talks before worship services.
  2. Each member will then take a Spiritual Gifts Assessment using the assessment from www.churchgrowth.org. The assessment data for each member will be compiled in an on-line database managed and secured by the Stewardship ministry team.
  3. After data compilation, each member will be personally presented with the results of their assessment from a Stewardship or Christian Education team member with suggestions and opportunities to use their spiritual gifts.

This assessment will be followed by our 2008 Annual Stewardship Campaign. This year, we will “give to God” not only our treasure on our Offering Cards but our time and talent through our spiritual gifts.
